When you plan a trip to Nice, France, you’re in good company: This city has been a tourist destination since at least the 18th century. The European aristocracy often spent their winters in the pleasant climate, with a sunset walk on the shoreline being the highlight of each day. You can walk in their footsteps—literally—with a stroll down the Promenade des Anglais, which roughly translates to Walkway of the English. On a tour of Nice, you’ll enjoy the mixture of French and Italian culture that permeates the city’s architecture, public art, and yes, the food. Bon appetit! The residents of Nice love the outdoors, and you will, too, as you explore the Place Massena—the city’s main square, where you can enjoy a snack at a café or do some shopping in its many boutiques. In fact it's still being built, because the cathedral is so complex and fragile that it needs continuous restorations. Sculptors are always at work, restoring and substituting some of its more than 3.000 marble statues - so that the enormous cathedral is continuously rebuilding itself, in the same way a human body is continuously substituting its older cells with new ones. We made time for major attractions like Il Duomo, Sforza Castle, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, but we also veered away from the crowds in search of street art and interesting neighborhoods. This being Italy, we also tried to prioritize meals, sampling everything from pizza to risotto, and cappuccinos to aperitivos. The following travel guide will highlight 20 things to do when you visit Milan, Italy 1) Milan Catherdral (Il Duomo - Duomo di Milano - Domm de Milan) 2) Il Duomo Terrace 3) Italian Breakfast - Cappuccino and sweet Italian pastries 4) Sforza Castle - Castello Sforzesco 5) The Galleria - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 6) Risotto alla Milanese - Milan style risotto 7) Street Art around Porta Ticinese 8) Colonne di San Lorenzo - Columns of San Lorenzo Roman Ruins 9) Boat tour down the canal (linea traghetti gaggiano milano) 10) Dine along the canal in Milan's Navigli District 11) Aperitivo drinks and buffet - Apéritifs and digestifs 12) Shopping in Milan down Via Torino 13) Visiting Chinatown for some Chinese food 14) Ride a bicycle in Milan like a local 15) Pizza al taglio (pizza al trancio) Italian pizza by the slice 16) Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio containing relics of the 3 Magi 17) Duomo Museum covering the cathedrals history in-depth 18) New City Views with a hop-on-hop-off bus pass 19) Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano 20) Night views of Milan nearby Il Duomo http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/20-things-milan-blogville Our trip to Milan, Lombardy was part of the Blogville project where we stayed in a local apartment and experienced all of the best cultural activities, museums, restaurants, arts and entertainment the city has to offer. This city guide is our best attempt to create a mix of best attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't necessarily find in a typical Milan tourism brochure. 20 Things to do in Milan Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: Our first stop was Il Duomo, which is the most recognized attraction in the city. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. So we've sat down at a little cafe and we're going to have our first Italian breakfast with cappuccino and sweet pastries. Something that surprised us about Milan is that there is a castle right in the middle of the city. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan, and it then underwent several restorations and expansions in the following centuries. Today it houses several of the city's most prized art possessions, including frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's very last sculpture. For some upscale designer shopping, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to be. So we just found a local little restaurant and we're going to be trying a traditional dish that is very popular in this city and in the Lombardy region. We are going to have Risotto alla Milanese. The Colonne di San Lorenzo are the remains of Roman ruins that date back to the 2nd century. They are believed to have been part of a bath house. Another fun activity to try in Milan is a boat tour of the canals. The city's canals are attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, who in 1482 was called over by the Duke of Milan to help renovate the city’s canal system. Milan's Navigli District is one of the liveliest parts of town especially when the sun goes down for dining al fresco. So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet. And that's all for our visit to Milan. We hope this video will give you some cool ideas of sights and attractions to check out. This is part of our Travel in Italy series showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods & Italian cuisine. 5 Top-Rated Day Trips from Milan, Europe. Milan's position in Western Lombardy puts it within easy reach of several centers with plenty of tourist attractions. The Alps are so close that you can see them from the roof of the Duomo. Fabled Lake Como is less than an hour by train. The beautiful cities of Verona and Bergamo are easily accessible, as is Lake Garda. And even closer are Monza, Lodi, and Pavia with its immense monastery. Because Milan is the rail hub of northern Italy, getting to any of these places by train is easy, and packaged day tours often make it even easier to explore beyond the city. Here five day trips from Milan, Italy. 1. Lake Como 2. Verona and Lake Garda 3. Bernina Express to St. Moritz 4. Bergamo's Citta Alta 5. Milan - Italy Travel Guide, Vacation, Tourism World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Milan - Italy Travel Guide, Vacation http://goo.gl/PbEjrR With something almost Northern European in the air, yet exuding Italian style, Milan is Italy's most cosmopolitan city. Situated on the flat plains of the Po Valley, the capital of Lombardy is both hardworking and glamorous - powerful in businesses from finance to fashion and, of course, football. But what gives Milan its certain something is its status as the epicentre of Italian fashion and interior design. International fashionistas, designers, supermodels and paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for its spring and autumn fairs. Valentino, Versace and Armani may design and manufacture their clothes elsewhere, but Milan, which has carefully guarded its reputation for flair, drama and creativity, is Italy's natural stage. This is certainly one of the best places in Italy to shop, or windowshop. Apart from fashion, many large national banks and companies are headquartered here whilst the automobile, media, telecommunications and internet sectors have a significant presence too. Milan is the main industrial, commercial and financial centre of Italy and as such, is unsurprisingly business-like in appearance. In fact, despite its fashion credentials, the city is not as visually pleasing as Rome, Venice or Florence. At first glance, it lacks the wow factor; many buildings are grey, some are quite stark and there appears to be very little green space despite the fact there are many parks in the city. Visitors have to take time and be determined to explore Milan's streets in order to access its aesthetically appealing gems -- and they do exist. Cut through the modern metropolitan bustle, and you will stumble across impressive churches and palaces, the pretty Navigli area, the chic Brera district and lively university quarter. Among the most notable landmarks are the Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece (one of the biggest of its kind in the world) that looks vaguely threatening when illuminated at night; La Scala, the opera house with an illustrious history and reputation; Castello Sforzesco, a grand medieval castle; Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an ancient and glamorous arcaded shopping gallery and in a nod to art, the city is impressively home to Leonardo da Vinci's 15th century masterpiece The Last Supper. However, things are about to change -- and quite drastically. In a bid to beautify the city, former industrial areas have been ear marked for major urban renewal schemes. The Citylife project in the old Fiera area will create a new neighbourhood of homes, a park, a contemporary art museum and a trio of futuristic skyscrapers (one of them will boast an ambitious twisting design) that are set to be finished in 2015, the year Milan hosts the Expo. Apart from these new attributes, Milan cannot be faulted when it comes to having a good time. The Milanese know how to party -- and they don't waste time getting started. Nightlife tends to kick off at 6pm; enjoying an aperitivo in which locals unwind with post-work drinks and nibbles before heading home is the rule rather than exception. So whether you're looking for cut-price fashion, an alternative city break or a chance to paint the town red, Milan has undoubtedly got it covered. ========================================== Milan Museums, Milan Transport, Milan Tours, Milan Introduction, Milan Attractions, Milan Hotels, Milan Restaurants, Milan Shopping, Milan Nightlife, world travel video, Milan video, Milan, Milan Travel guide, Milan Tourism, Milan Vacation, Italy, Italy travel guide, Italy tourism, Italy vacation, Italy Attractions, Europe === Milan - Italy Travel Guide, Vacation, Tourism, Travel Tips, Attractions

Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other. Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace. Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. From here, journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; once the homes of wealthy merchants, today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries. Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to explore. The Accademia Bridge links the San Marco district to the Accademia Gallery, and offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which today still serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison. Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Discover waterfront promenades of The Zattere and the sleepy canals and spacious piazzas of Castello. On the tiny island of Murano, glassmakers have been creating works of incredible delicacy and color for over 700 years. Further across the lagoon, the island of Burano is famed for its brightly colored houses and exquisite lace. Venice has shone her light into the far corners of the world for over one and a half thousand years. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or stay for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer. http://www.expedia.com/Venice.d179981.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

https://www.expedia.com/Florence.d179893.Destination-Travel-Guides Florence, Italy, is a bustling Mediterranean city loaded with delicious Italian food and thousands of years of recorded history. Florence began 59 B.C., when Julius Caesar’s former soldiers settled along the Arno River. The city, initially called Florentia, grew up around these settlements. Today, the old Roman parts of the city are long gone, but the Piazza della Repubblica features a towering monument—the Column of Abundance—where the ancient Roman main streets met. Explore some additional history at the Centro Storico, the historic center of the city. This area features a number of medieval buildings, like the breathtaking Florence Cathedral. Centro Storico is also where you can meet Il Porcellino, a bronze boar statue that is something of a mascot for Florence. Put a coin in his mouth for good luck—it can’t hurt, right? Continue your Florence tour by taking in some of the world’s most stunning religious art, much of it created under the Medici family in the 15th and 16th centuries. You’ll find statues in parks and fountains, as well as outside and inside buildings. Stop by the Uffizi Gallery, which spans a full city block, and view paintings by great artists such as Sandro Botticelli. You’ll also want to visit the Gallery of The Academy to see some of Michelangelo’s seminal work. On the south side of the Arno River is Palazzo Pitti, one of the Medici family’s residences during the Renaissance. It’s now a large set of galleries, where you can view some of the Medici heirlooms and some of their prized artwork, including pieces by Raphael and Correggio. What will you do in Florence? Any Nice sightseeing requires exploration of one of the many open-air markets, where you can pick up fresh produce, local artwork, and French pastries that will leave you wondering why you waited so long to visit. Cap a perfect day in Nice with a dip in the ocean and a walk along the seashore, watching the sun disappear into the sea. What are you going to eat while in Nice? Visit our Nice travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

Discover the beauty of the majestic marble cathedral of Milan - find out more on http://www.leonardoamilano.org/english Transcript: Don't be fooled by its apparent unity of style: the Duomo has been built over more than 5 centuries, having been started in the XIV century and finished with the facade in the XIX century. To fully appreciate the Duomo I suggest you to first have a walk around it, to appreciate the gigantic scale and the magnificent view from the back, which is the oldest part of the cathedral. Then you can get a ticket for the terraces and take the elevator up to the rooftop or climb the 200 steps if you are the sporty type. From the roof you can not only fully appreciate the marble forest of pinnacles, spires and statues, but also enjoy magnificent views of the city center, if it's a clear day. Finally, you can enter the cathedral. Just remember to have a suitable dress (no shorts or miniskirts for example) otherwise you could be denied entrance. Once inside, there are so many things to notice and appreciate, but I will now highlight only two details: the colourful stained-glass windows, which shine into the rather dark interior, and the amazing St. Bartholomew statue, near the back door entrance, an example of incredible sculpting ability, if somewhat gory, with the saint bearing its skin taken away from his body during the martyrdom. The Duomo square offers at least two other highlights apart from the Duomo itself: the Palazzo Reale, which hosts the most important temporary art exhibitions in the city, and the recently opened Museo del 900, a tribute to the importance of Milan in the XX century artistic scene. In fact Milan has been the epicentre of important artistic movements, from Futurism to Arte Povera, all of which are well represented in the brand new museum. Especially impressive is the Lucio Fontana hall, with spectacular views over the Duomo square.

As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration. No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman. Continue your Rome sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, designed by Michelangelo, is both a remarkable structure and a tribute to faith. You can look down from the famous dome to the Holy Square, which is usually filled with the faithful looking to obtain a blessing from the Pope. After this, it’s just a few steps to restaurants filled with Italian food. Forget coming back to Rome – you’ll never want to leave. What’s your favorite memory of Rome? We’ll be giving you all the essential information that you need to Travel better. Covering tips on money, language, getting around, and of course the iconic leaning tower. But first here’s bit about this small but historic city. Once a powerful maritime city state, modern Pisa is a small town packed full of culture, with a long and interesting history. Although it’s iconic leaning tower made it world famous, there is much more to Pisa than this one landmark. Friendly locals, great food, and classic architecture, make it one of our favourite places to visit in Italy. Pisa has one airport that’s only one short hop from the City centre, and it’s here where our guide starts Pisa airport is the main gateway into Tuscany, and receives almost 5 million passengers every year. It’s really close to town, and transfers are available by public bus, taxi or the Pisa Mover service. When taking the bus look out for the big blue City bus signs. Taking the Lam Rossa line towards Pisa, Tickets cost €1.20, buses leave every 10 minutes and the journey takes 6 minutes to Pisa Centrale. A taxi should cost around €10, with an extra €2.55 charge on Sundays and public holidaysNew in 2017 the Pisa Mover shuttle service costs €2.70 each way and gets you into town in just 5 minutes. It’s defiantly our recommended way to get into the centre. Pisa is a small city and one that’s best enjoyed on foot, infant it’s usually quicker and easier this way. For example a walk from Pisa Centrale should take no more than twenty minutes. The bus service in Pisa uses three main lines; red, green and blue. The red line, ro LAM Rossa, is the one that takes you to the Leaning Tower. Tickets are available in tobacco shops, the station and airport. Buy your ticket before you travel and then validate as you board. Bear in mind that after 9pm the buses switch to a reduced night service until midnight. Tickets are available in 70, 120 and 240 minute variations and the 70-minute ticket is also available in books of 4 or 10. Driving in Pisa is similar to other popular Italian cities, in that it has a limited-traffic-zone, called the ZTL. Driving in this zone will incur a fine between €60 and €100 each time you pass a traffic camera (meaning you can get fined multiple times for driving along the same street). The Leaning Tower is one of Italy’s most iconic sights, and is what Pisa is best known for, here are the key facts: The Towers characteristic lean is caused by a combination of it’s small foundations and the soft soil on which it was built. After a programme of structural strengthening was completed in 2001 the tower is now safe to enter. When buying tickets you'll be given a time slot to return to enter to the tower. This could be up to 3 hours after purchase. So we think it’s well worth booking your tickets in advance to avoid the long wait. Only 40 people are allowed inside at any one time, and children under 8 are not permitted at all. No bags at all are allowed in the tower. You can take a camera, but your bag must go in the free security deposit. You're allowed 35 minutes inside the tower after entering. Opening times are varied, we'll link to the official website in the description to the official website.
