The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration. No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city. • Nice Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

When you plan a trip to Nice, France, you’re in good company: This city has been a tourist destination since at least the 18th century. The European aristocracy often spent their winters in the pleasant climate, with a sunset walk on the shoreline being the highlight of each day. You can walk in their footsteps—literally—with a stroll down the Promenade des Anglais, which roughly translates to Walkway of the English. On a tour of Nice, you’ll enjoy the mixture of French and Italian culture that permeates the city’s architecture, public art, and yes, the food. Bon appetit! The residents of Nice love the outdoors, and you will, too, as you explore the Place Massena—the city’s main square, where you can enjoy a snack at a café or do some shopping in its many boutiques. Any Nice sightseeing ...

We made time for major attractions like Il Duomo, Sforza Castle, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, but we also veered away from the crowds in search of street art and interesting neighborhoods. This being Italy, we also tried to prioritize meals, sampling everything from pizza to risotto, and cappuccinos to aperitivos. The following travel guide will highlight 20 things to do when you visit Milan, Italy 1) Milan Catherdral (Il Duomo - Duomo di Milano - Domm de Milan) 2) Il Duomo Terrace 3) Italian Breakfast - Cappuccino and sweet Italian pastries 4) Sforza Castle - Castello Sforzesco 5) The Galleria - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 6) Risotto alla Milanese - Milan style risotto 7) Street Art around Porta Ticinese 8) Colonne di San Lorenzo - Columns of San Lorenzo Roman Ruins 9) Boat tour down the canal (linea traghetti gaggiano milano) 10) Dine along the canal in Milan's Navigli District 11) Aperitivo drinks and buffet - Apéritifs and digestifs 12) Shopping in Milan down Via Torino 13) Visiting Chinatown for some Chinese food 14) Ride a bicycle in Milan like a local 15) Pizza al taglio (pizza al trancio) Italian pizza by the slice 16) Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio containing relics of the 3 Magi 17) Duomo Museum covering the cathedrals history in-depth 18) New City Views with a hop-on-hop-off bus pass 19) Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano 20) Night views of Milan nearby Il Duomo http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/20-things-milan-blogville Our trip to Milan, Lombardy was part of the Blogville project where we stayed in a local apartment and experienced all of the best cultural activities, museums, restaurants, arts and entertainment the city has to offer. This city guide is our best attempt to create a mix of best attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't necessarily find in a typical Milan tourism brochure. 20 Things to do in Milan Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: Our first stop was Il Duomo, which is the most recognized attraction in the city. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. So we've sat down at a little cafe and we're going to have our first Italian breakfast with cappuccino and sweet pastries. Something that surprised us about Milan is that there is a castle right in the middle of the city. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan, and it then underwent several restorations and expansions in the following centuries. Today it houses several of the city's most prized art possessions, including frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's very last sculpture. For some upscale designer shopping, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to be. So we just found a local little restaurant and we're going to be trying a traditional dish that is very popular in this city and in the Lombardy region. We are going to have Risotto alla Milanese. The Colonne di San Lorenzo are the remains of Roman ruins that date back to the 2nd century. They are believed to have been part of a bath house. Another fun activity to try in Milan is a boat tour of the canals. The city's canals are attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, who in 1482 was called over by the Duke of Milan to help renovate the city’s canal system. Milan's Navigli District is one of the liveliest parts of town especially when the sun goes down for dining al fresco. So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet. And that's all for our visit to Milan. We hope this video will give you some cool ideas of sights and attractions to check out. This is part of our Travel in Italy series showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods & Italian cuisine. Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other. Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace. Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. From here, journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; once the homes of wealthy merchants, today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries. Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to explore. The Accademia Bridge links the San Marco district to the Accademia Gallery, and offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which today still serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison. Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Discover waterfront promenades of The Zattere and the sleepy canals and spacious piazzas of Castello. On the tiny island of Murano, glassmakers have been creating works of incredible delicacy and color for over 700 years. Further across the lagoon, the island of Burano is famed for its brightly colored houses and exquisite lace. Venice has shone her light into the far corners of the world for over one and a half thousand years. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or stay for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer. http://www.expedia.com/Venice.d179981.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

https://www.expedia.com/Florence.d179893.Destination-Travel-Guides Florence, Italy, is a bustling Mediterranean city loaded with delicious Italian food and thousands of years of recorded history. Florence began 59 B.C., when Julius Caesar’s former soldiers settled along the Arno River. The city, initially called Florentia, grew up around these settlements. Today, the old Roman parts of the city are long gone, but the Piazza della Repubblica features a towering monument—the Column of Abundance—where the ancient Roman main streets met. Explore some additional history at the Centro Storico, the historic center of the city. This area features a number of medieval buildings, like the breathtaking Florence Cathedral. Centro Storico is also where you can meet Il Porcellino, a bronze boar statue that is something of a mascot for Florence. Put a coin in his mouth for good luck—it can’t hurt, right? Continue your Florence tour by taking in some of the world’s most stunning religious art, much of it created under the Medici family in the 15th and 16th centuries. You’ll find statues in parks and fountains, as well as outside and inside buildings. Stop by the Uffizi Gallery, which spans a full city block, and view paintings by great artists such as Sandro Botticelli. You’ll also want to visit the Gallery of The Academy to see some of Michelangelo’s seminal work. On the south side of the Arno River is Palazzo Pitti, one of the Medici family’s residences during the Renaissance. It’s now a large set of galleries, where you can view some of the Medici heirlooms and some of their prized artwork, including pieces by Raphael and Correggio. What will you do in Florence? As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman. Continue your Rome sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, designed by Michelangelo, is both a remarkable structure and a tribute to faith. You can look down from the famous dome to the Holy Square, which is usually filled with the faithful looking to obtain a blessing from the Pope. After this, it’s just a few steps to restaurants filled with Italian food. Forget coming back to Rome – you’ll never want to leave. What’s your favorite memory of Rome? Any Nice sightseeing requires exploration of one of the many open-air markets, where you can pick up fresh produce, local artwork, and French pastries that will leave you wondering why you waited so long to visit. Cap a perfect day in Nice with a dip in the ocean and a walk along the seashore, watching the sun disappear into the sea. What are you going to eat while in Nice? Visit our Nice travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

Start at the bottom and work your way up. You'll see all the Romeo and Juliet sites, including where they lived and where they got married, along with the best views in Verona and amazing churches and piazzas. Be sure to subscribe to see all our adventures around the world: https://www.youtube.com/user/perfectlittleplanet?sub_confirmation=1 As you can see at the end of the video, we had time to spare. So if you want to go up the Torre dei Lamberti or go into the Arena, you can. Just make sure you watch your times, since ALL THE CHURCHES CLOSE AT 5pm, with a siesta break from 1-1:30. You can easily see the entire city in one day. We started at the bottom (San Zeno and Castelvecchio) and zig-zagged our way up to the top, ending at the viewpoint (at Piazzale Castel San Pietro) for sunset. A little better planning would reduce the amount of walking we did (we covered more than 30,000 steps), but the town is so small that you can get across the entire thing in about 15 minutes. Here is a list of everything we saw and the corresponding timestamps: 0:27 - Basilica San Zeno (where Romeo and Juliet got married) 3:01 - Castelvecchio 3:20 - Castelvecchio Bridge (aka Ponte Scaligero) - medieval bridge with the world's largest arch (at the time it was built) 3:49 - Piazza Bra 4:01 - Arena di Verona (it opens late on Mondays - at 1:30pm, every other day is 8:30am-7:30pm) 4:22 - Via Mazzini 4:39 - Porta Borsari 5:01 - Arco dei Gavi 5:12 - Lunch at Baccha Bundus (fantastic piadinas) 5:24 - Piazza della Erbe 5:29 - Piazza della Ragione 5:32 - Torre dei Lamberti 5:40 (and 12:00) - Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House) 6:01 - Porta Leoni 6:10 - San Fermo (upper church) 6:51 - San Fermo (lower church) 7:28 - Casa di Romeo 7:36 - Sant'Anastasia 8:27 - Duomo di Verona (Verona Cathedral 9:10 - St. Elena 9:21 - The baptistry (St Giovanni in Fonte) 9:43 - Scaliger Tombs (Tombs of the della Scala family) 9:53 - Santa Maria Antica 10:02 and 10:38 - Ponte Pietra 10:41 - Piazzale Castel San Pietro (Best view in Verona) 10:54 - Dante's statue in Piazza dei Signori This is the final day of our 11-day trip through Europe. Athens (Greek: Αθήνα, Athína - Ἀθῆναι) 20 Things to do in Athens Greece Top Attractions Travel Guide Transcript: Well, good afternoon from sunny Athens. We are currently exploring the Greek capital. We recently actually spent a few days traveling around Meteora and now we're finishing up our trip here in Athens. We've got two full days to explore the city which isn't a lot of time but we're going to try to do our best. Our first stop was one of the most recognized sights in Athens - the Parthenon, which was dedicated to the goddess Athena who was seen as the patron of Athens. After sunset we lingered atop Mount Lycabettus for some night views of the city before taking the funicular down to the bottom. Seeing the Acropolis all lit up at night was a pretty cool sight! Next up we visited the Temple of Zeus which once housed the statue of Zeus, and was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When it comes to shopping, there are a few different options. We made our way to Monastiraki, which is one of the principal shopping districts in Athens. Here we visited both the Flea Market and the antique shops in the area.  The Agora was the central spot in ancient Greek city-states, and it is where people gathered. So we are wrapping up our time here in Athens. Any surprises or final thoughts to share? Yeah, something that really surprised me were just the amount of stray animals that I saw on the streets. I also thought there was really good dining options as well. We had a number of really good Greek meals and also some really good International food too. Final thoughts, I think this is a really underrated capital in Europe. A lot like Warsaw in Poland so if you have an opportunity to visit Athens in Greece definitely do so. So what did you think of Athens? Well, I thought it was a really cool city and I actually had a great time here. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Tel Aviv with the Mediterranean feel but also Berlin because it is very artsy and gritty. So it's a really cool place to check out. Great food, lots of attractions. You have a mix of antiquity with urban. And that's a wrap for Athens! We hope you enjoyed this city guide and that it'll come in handy when you plan your own trip. This is part of our Travel in Greece series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Greek culture, Greek arts, Greek foods & Greek cuisine. Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network
